February 18th marked my 38th birthday and the SOLD OUT show at Rams Head LIVE with Dead Poet Society and Highly Suspect.
The venue was PACKED with people eagerly awaiting the show start time. Even before Dead Poet Society took the stage, an energy brought on by enthusiasm took over the venue. Belting out lyrics to overhead tunes, it was clear to see fans were happy, eager and hyped to see these bands.
First up, Dead Poet Society.
I would best describe Dead Poet Society (DPS) as an edgy groove rock band based out of Boston, MA. The band is composed of Jack Underkofler, Jack Collins, Dylan Brenner, Will Goodroad. These guys have been jamming for over a decade together and allthough their set was only around 35 mins, DPS performed like the headlining act. The band tore through tracks with high energy and passion from their most recent album -!-. An obvious crowd favorite song was .intoodeep. DPS gained a new fan in me and I am sure countless others. With being together for a decade, it is still clear these guys have a lust and passion for what they do. The happiness shines through from the stage to the crowd. Leaving it all on stage it was now time for the main event…
Highly Suspect – composed of Johnny Stevens, Matt Kofos, Rich and Ryan Meyer – originally formed in 2009. These guys have been all over the radio as of late. A constant reminder of how hard work pays off. As the lights dimmed, fans knew it was time. Sporting a pair of Doc Martens and a beautiful woven poncho, Johnny Stevens and his band mates entered the stage and took their positions with their instruments. Johnny made sure to hug each member before starting the performance off with ‘Bath Salts‘ from their recent album Midnight Demon Club. This packed house was in unison, repeating the lyrics right back to the band. This brought Johnny and his band mates to a hault with lyrics. I think they were stunned. Seeing and hearing fans sing ‘Natural Born Killer‘ while Johnny stayed silent, absorbing the moment was absolutely incredible.
